HANDS-ON SCIENCE WORKSHOPS, Grades K-8

These workshops emphasize experiential learning to help students develop insight and understanding in life science, physical science, earth science and technology.

September, 2024

Life in Alaska – students investigate Alaskan habitats and the plants and animals that live within them. Learning objectives include living and non-living elements of ecosystems, food chains, webs and pyramids, renewable and non-renewable resources.

October, 2024

Innovation Forge – Students will develop critical thinking skills by applying science, technology, engineering and math principles to solve real-world engineering challenges.

November, 2024

Dynamic Earth Explorers – Students will investigate both the constructive and destructive forces that shape our planet.

February, 2025

Digital Universe – Students will gain a fundamental understanding of electronics and computer science principles through hands-on projects that involve circuit design and programming.

March, 2025

STEAM = Science + Beauty – This workshop will spark creative vision and aesthetic sensibility - such as such as form, proportion, and style - as students create projects that highlight beauty in the everyday stuff around us.

April, 2025

Chain Reaction Creations - a Rube Goldberg Workshop
– This engaging learning experience sparks creativity as students use simple machines connected in cause-and-effect chains of events. Students will gain a practical understanding in the design process and scientific principles including stored and active energy, balanced and unbalanced forces, problem solving and engineering design process as they aply these principles to their Rube Goldberg machines.
